The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) has approved Texas-New Mexico Power’s (TNMP) 2025-2027 System Resiliency Plan, marking a significant investment in strengthening the reliability and resiliency of TNMP’s electric grid.
Developed using a comprehensive, data-driven approach, the plan outlines eight key Resiliency Measures aimed at preventing, withstanding, mitigating, and expediting recovery from resilience-related events. These measures include:
- Distribution System Resiliency:
- Distribution Circuit Overhead Inspections Hardening
- Circuit Hardening
- Distribution System Protection Modernization:
- Mainline automated Reclosing Deployment
- Lateral Reclosing Deployment
- Vegetation Management:
- Proactive trimming
- Risk assessments
- Remote sensing to allow TNMP to assess and prioritize issues
- Wildfire Mitigation:
- Asset protection
- Ignition mitigation
- Situational awareness sensors and cameras
- Flood Mitigation:
- Substation flood prevention measures
- Enhanced Operations System Technology: Strengthening operations with advanced monitoring and network improvements
- Cybersecurity: Expanding security operations, monitoring, and protection against cyber threats
- Physical Security Resiliency: Enhancing substation security with fencing and technology upgrades
TNMP is committed to strengthening its grid and enhancing reliability by investing over $545 million over the next three years. This investment will help protect against severe weather risks and other potential threats. Additionally, TNMP is dedicating over $86 million to operations and maintenance, including important initiatives like vegetation management and wildfire mitigation. While the approved order adjusted the settlement amount for vegetation management, TNMP remains focused on ensuring a safe and resilient system for the communities we serve.
