EEI Announces TNMP as Emergency Response Award Recipient
Today, Texas-New Mexico Power (TNMP) was announced as an Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Emergency Response Award recipient. Presented to EEI member companies twice a year, the Emergency Response Awards recognize recovery and assistance efforts of electric companies following service disruptions caused by extreme weather or other natural events. The winners were chosen by a panel of judges following an international nomination process, and the awards were presented during EEI’s winter Board of Directors and CEO meeting.
“Mutual assistance is a hallmark of our industry, and I applaud TNMP’s sustained commitment to aiding neighboring electric companies in times of need. TNMP and its storm response team undoubtedly are deserving of this national recognition, and I am honored to present them with this well-deserved award,” said EEI President Tom Kuhn.
On September 28, 30 employees from across the TNMP service territory were deployed to Florida to assist with Hurricane Ian power restoration. For six days, crews worked around the clock in conjunction with Tampa Electric, restoring power to hundreds of customers due to Hurricane Ian.
Crews were faced with working in high winds, rain, and flooding. The work done by TNMP crews was split between bucket work and climbing, with most of the jobs in the backyards, where the lineman had to climb.
“Our crews performed admirably in a compromised and foreign environment. Senior leadership at TNMP received correspondence from the impacted utilities complementing our personnel’s work ethic and professionalism throughout the event. I couldn’t be prouder of our employee’s willingness to help in the face of disaster,” said Keith Nix, Vice President of Operations at TNMP.
Including this year’s award, TNMP has received eight Emergency Recovery Assistance Awards. TNMP has also received three Recovery Awards.
TNMP is a transmission and distribution service provider that delivers power to more than 260,000 homes and businesses on behalf of retail electric providers in Texas. More information is available at tnmp.com/about-us.
